POWER BOARD.
FOR SOUTH CANTERBURY.
A meeting of chairmen pf South Canfoitiftry local bodies _w a s held yesterday afternoon in Timaru for the purpose of further considering the question of forming a South Can fort ury Power Board. Present: Th« Mayor of TimarUj T, Gunnion (Mayor <jf Temuka), B. R. Macdonald (Mayor of Geraldine), G. Saunders (Pleasant Point Town L ird), T L. Hart (Waimate County CounC. N. Orblell (Levels County Council), E; Macdonald (Mackenzie County Council and the Town Clerk (Mr D. Virtue). i The chairman read letters wnieh had tieen received from the vori-. ouis local todies (Waimate Borough being' the only one which had not replied), and " said that they had all decided fo join the Power Board, with the exception of Waimate Borough. The next step was for each district to Set 25 per cent, of the ratepayers in each .to agree to (he Power Board; and it -was' left to the Mayor of Timaru and the Town Clerk to frame the petition. Mr Hart said it should pointed out that if the district did ho* subscribe 25 per cent, of signatures that district would not join the Power Boayd. Each petition would stand on its own.
Mr Octet I inquired who waa to determine the inner and outor areas. The Mayor said that each, constit uent district would define its inner and outer area. Mr Hart said there would 'hie some difficulty in fixing these areas, and it should he done toy each district on a uniform blasts. 1 Mr OrbeJ concurred in this view 1 . The Mayor isaid he thought foe whole of Level® County should come in. !
After a discussion on possible tloundaries, Mr Hart suggested that the local todies slipuld meet in conference and fix the inner and outer areas on a uniform basis. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Hart and E. Macdonald, that the County Councils should meet in conference as proposed, to fix the inner and outer are a s. (The Boroughs will not require to he repre. sen ted at this conference as they will he all inner areas). It was decided that the next meeting he held on Wednesday, 6th April.
