WELLINGTON, this day. The litfel action brought by Jas. Furtiiss, a former of LJuntly, against The Dominion (Wellington), the Auckland Weekly News, and the New Zcaland'Hei’ald for £lOOO damages each, commenced to-day. The papeie admitted, the publication, in the report of a maintenance case;, Bartlet v. Bartley, of an inaccurate statement that F|urniss wlas a (tiiemtal .case, and the question for the Jury was the amount of damage sustained. The defendants published a correction. The jury awarded plaintiff £l5O damages, £lOO to be paid ty The Dominion, with cotsife on the lowest scale, and £5O between tho New Zealand Herald (Auckland) and the Weekly News, with costs- on highest scale.
