DOUGLAS NOTES.

(Own Correspondent.) The annual school concert aid dance, in aid of the .school funds, was held in the Douglas schoolroom on Friday evening last, and was an unqualified success. Tim function opened with t ho National Anthem which was followed; hy the singing of ‘.‘Trcntharn,” by i lie school children, and 1 the manner in which the children’s items were received by thb large ,audience proved the- success of their efforts. All the children, from' the highest standards to the tiny tots, filled Dieir various parts with conviction and fully deserved the hearty encores which were demanded. During the evening songs were given hy Miss J. Gcddes, Mrs Kinsman* Mr Kinsman find Mr Whatman, of Douglas; and Mr Weisney, Mr Inkster* and a duet by the Misses Smith, of Waimate. Mr Wilson! g,ave| a- humourous 'recitation, which was greatly appreciated (by the children . Mr Brchan, of Studholme, danced some step dances very gracefully, while Mr Mclntyre gave a stirring selection mu the pipes. At the conclusion of the concert programme, Mr Neill, iwh'o occupied the chair in his Usual efficient manner, thanked the public for their attendance, and also all who had helped to make the evening a success. Supper was then served, and dancing was indulged in to music supplied by Miss Neill and Mr Foley. Mr Wall acted 'as M.C.; The accompaniments for the various items were played by Miss Neill. The annual school picnic was held in Mr Hampton’s meadow on Wednesday when there, was a good gathering. After the usual races, ggam.es Were indulged in, and all had a jolly time. In the evening all met at ■ the schoolroom, where dancing was carried on merrily for a few hours. During the afternoon Mr Nelson, on behalf of the Committee, 'presented Miss L. Neill with: a (hkci hiandb'ag 1 as an acknowledgment’ of her services in helping Miss Mailing with the recent conceit. 1
