HUNTING.
MEET AT JOHNSTONE’S, OTAIO. A (southerly wind and a cloudy sky heralded in the- King's Birthday, and hunting enthusiasts looked as black as the weather. Tho meet was hold at Mr 11. B. S. Johnstone Vs “vSpringbunk,” Olaio. ■Despite tlie threatening elements a fail’ held went out when hounds threw oil in the mornings but tin; rain came pouring down, and hounds were packed up, and a drenched held returned to tho homestead for tan excellent lunch, fortunately the weather soon cleared, and hounds were thrown oil at one o’clock in the stubble Ix'yo’nd tho homestead. A short, patchy mu soon followed, ending in a. kill. Hounds were then packed up and thk'eu across ‘the road and thrown off in some beautiful hunting country, where the huntsman gave followers some excellent sport, and had bad luck in not registering another kill, a done hare escaping in rough tussock. Hounds then away on a fresh hare, and tills run was the best of tho day, and tried tho jumping capabilities of followers' horses. Alter a three mile run over varied country, hounds checked and lost at a road double. Thus ended a most enjoyable afternoon, and those who braved the weather were iully recompensed. Courts) on Meliboeus and Rata, .Miss Kirk on Poppy, Mrs Hoskins on a bay, Messrs P. Studholme on Uncle Tom, Lemon on Perryman, J. Nicol on Bat, L. Hamilton on Tommy Atkins, P. Tate on Little Toby, C. Hardens tie on Nelli®? T. Gibson on Maori, 0. Hoskins on Fakir, L. Hoskins on Warrigal, S. Richards on Ulster, Qt. Bell on Platinum, G.Caguc bn a bay, I). Brim ton on Shamrock, G. IMcVea on Highland Lassie, S. Dowthwaitc on Wanganui, E. B. Fraser on Rata.
