There was a large attendance at the monthly library social which was held in the schoolroom on Wednesday evening last. Messrs T. Englebrecht, I violin, and W. Giles, piccolo, supplied i the music for the dances, while Mr T. Mercer acted as M.C. During the evening songs were giren by Messr* D. Martin and W. Giles. Light refreshments were handed r*und and at an early hour an enjoyable evening was brought to a close." Several newr. books have lately been purchased for the library, atid three new members enrolled. Mr li. Kelcher, recently of thw district, but who is now on a farm at Waihao Downs, met with rather » nasty accident on Sunday afternoon last, while on his way to church. It appears the horso which he was riding has a habit of." trying to stand on it* head, which feat it tried to perform that day, causing cae saddle to slip forward, and landing the unfortunate rider in tha middle of the road. Mr Kelcher received a wound in the forehead, and a very badly bruised arm. He returned home to the Hunter on Monday, and is now progressing favourably.
