Waituna Concert and Dance.
The annual concert and danea in aid of the funds of the Waituna School was hold on Thursday evening, and proved * record one, both by its excellence and the largeness of the audience. Thee onc»rt was considered by those present to be the best over held in the Waimate district, and great praise is due to Mr John Cochrane, the energetio chairman of the School Committee, for bringing together «uch a number of first-class performers. The psrforinerg included old favourites, Mrs Hamilton und Messrs Gold"^ etone, Goltman. Tennant (Timaru), and Potter (Oaniaru), all of whom wore in splendid voice. Those new to thi<? district were Mrs Coombs, who \dm> a magnificent voice and who was ac corded undeniablo oncores for both hor song 3, Miss Turnbull, whose violin playing may be desc^ib'J *t si sap l y j loT»ly, and Mr J. MoOowan, who ostßblished himself as a great farourit* by h's inimit,abl» styU in reciting " A Voting Experiance," and preaching a sorinon on the woll-known " Old Moth»r Hubbard." Mias Smart ac oooapaniad the siagers ia her uau»l excellent style. At the close of the conourk Mr Oochrana conreyed to the audience the thanks of the committee for their attendance. He would ask them to pass a Tote of thanks to the performers foy the excellent oonoert. All were good, but h« would single out no one for •peeial thanks except Miss Smart, who had played the accompaniments exoellently. This was carried by acclamation, and a v«rse of the National Anthem sung by the nudience. The room was cleared foy dancing, which wao kopt up with spirit till an early hour to the music of Messrs Wilson (2), and Saundera. A rery excellent supper was dispensed by Mesdaiues Meyer and Vigers and Miss Oochrun*.
