London, July 5. Mir Chamherlain has informed the New Zealand Government that he regretted the temporary difficulties in the hospital arrangements. Ample supplies were now available. He promised an enquiry into the colontaWdQEoplainta in reference to the treatment ,>pf the sick and wounded^ pfc^ferred that the expensa of * hospital attendance be an Imperial charge.
* July 5. The Boers made a desperate attempt to regain Ficksburg at midnight on Wednesday. They wore repulsed after an hour's fierce fighting. Kniger has informed a Daily Telegraph interviewer ihafc he would fight while 500 burghers remained alive. Sergeant W. Russell, Troopers Smith, Jiearney and Auret, New Zcalanders, were taken prisoners to Noritsgedacht. Lieutenant Rundle and a patrol of carbineers were captured in the vicinity of Pretoria. Trains a*e now running to Greylingstad from Natal.
Pretoria, July 8. General Sir Redvers Buller has reached Pretoria. The Boers are asking Portugal for permission to trek to Gazaladd.
