Heavy Floods.
Sydney, July 6. Four and a half inches of rain 1 fell in the city during the last 24 "iours. Some coastal stations have already recorded five inches, while the township of RoDertson registered sine and a half inches. The river came down suddenly at Yass, and imperilled a number of residents. It washed away dwellings, and 15 families are homeless. 'I'bere are 18 inches of snow on j iha Blue Mountains. A disastrous flood is anticipated irom the Hawkesbury River, which is now 26ft over the bridge at Bichmond, and the lowland farms around Windsor are submerged. There have been lively experiences at Goulburn, where rescue boats have been 'engaged all- night . rosoiiing the inhabitants in the ~ lowlying parts. A family of seven i Uefuged in a tree till daylight. Many families have, been taken from ihg roofs of dwellings.
July 7. The floods at Goulburn are subsiding. A quantity of live stock were drowned, .An ' old man yerished near his hut, ; having '{ evidently fallen off the roof into the crater. Several houses at Oookwell have , collapsed, owing to the weight of finow. , _ ? On the Western .Railway, traffic , is much delayed. The rails are - covered with Bft of snow in'' places. The Hawkesbury flood was the - greatest for %2 -years. Rescrie i boats are now at work; Heavy i -, losses of live stock are reported. . * o Numerous blocks and -landslips, - nave taken place, ,on ; the ' Western. ~ Railtray.
