GERMAN PROTEST AT THEIR
RELEASE.
AMERICAN OFFICIALS REPLY.

(Received 8.20 p.m., Feb. sth.) NEW YORK, February 4. Commander Borg has hotly protested at the releases, claiming that the prisoners were on German territory. The Collector of Customs replied that perhaps this was so, but they were in American waters and therefore received American protection.

Although the Appam has been declared a prize, nothing further has been decided as to her fate or whether she will be allowed to refuge in America or lie ordered to quit. A GERMAN REPORT. WAS THE APPAM ARMED. Amsterdam, February 4.
The Cologne Gazette states that the Appam earned gulis fore and aft, and was therefore armed to attack.

SYDNEY, February, 4
Naval circles here believe that the Appam’s mysterious patrol boat was the Paola, which was interned in Portngeuse West Africa, and is supposed to have escaped.
