Mr. Carmichael, in la letter to Mr. Holman declining the offer of the appointment as Commissioner of Inegation, says he has decided in this hour ol the nation's most crucial need that il fresh responsibilities are to be undertaken they should be in the firing line. He had therefore decided to enlist and offers his services for the front, Mr. C'.umiehuel, as the launcher of the Ride Club movement, considers that the chibs are inadequately exploited for soldiers. He lias therefore set himself the task of raising a riflenufns' battalion ol one thousand men within the next month.
