A mysterious drowning fatality occuired ..at Wakain -this .morning. F.dward '.MoMillon, a resident of Up-, per Nevis, came to Waikaia ten days ago, to.look into certain mining speculations. Ho visited a friend last night and .left for Ins hotel at 10 o’clock. There was no trace of him and this morning his body .was found in in the .Waikaia river, several miles below the township. McMillen was in good circumstances and the affair is surrounded by mystery as the .river is some distance away from the hotel.

DELIBERATELY INHALED GAS.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 24,

Evidence given .at the inquest yesterday on the death of George William Sears, aged 4G, showed that he had deliberately committed suicide by inhaling gas till ho died. Ho had been mentally affected for sonic time.

SHUNTER- KILLED

A railway porter, A. Old,-was killed at Ohakuno station on Saturday evening while shunting. It is supposed, that lu tripped over a stop!block ami was struck on his head by an empty waggon, tho wheels of which ran over In’s shoulder. He loaves a widow and two children.
