BISHOP GRIMES'S JUBILEE.

MESSAGE FROM THE HOLY FATHER.

• PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT CHRISTCHURCH, June 24. His Lordship Bishoj> Grimes celebrated his Silver Episcopal Jubilee yesterday. Special services were held at the Catholic Cathedral. During the morning service, it was announced that communication had been received from the Secretary of State (Cardinal Merry del Val) stating that Bishop Grimes had been enumerated amongst tho Domestic Prelates cf tho Pope, and had been proclaimed Noble and joined to the numbeu of both Nobles who were horn of parents, both of whom wore of order of the (Count. The Bishop has been granted the privilege of private oratory and the privilege of wearing silk vestments of those prelates, and the right cf having a place in Pontificiil chapels reserved for Bishops who were- assistants at the Throne. It is stated that the honour of Bishop Assistant at tho Pontificial Throne is enjoyed only by fourteen other Bishops in the English-speak-ing world. It was also announced during tho sendee that the Holy Father had been graciously pleased through the Palriach, of Jerusalem to create His Lordship Bishop Grimes, Bishop Knight Commander of the Holy Sepulchre. The following message was received from the Secretary of State: “On the joyful occasion of tho twenty-fifth anniversary of your Lordship’s Episcopal. Consecration and election of your Diocese, the Holy Father imparts to you, most coi dially, the special apostolic blessing and as a pledge of the great abundance of our favours, His Holiness also sends a special blessing to you fur tho clergy and faithful of your diocese.” (Signed) Cardinal Merry del Val.
