CHARITABLE AID AFFAIRS.

ACTION BY TUB BOROUGH COUNCIL. PETITION TO THE MAYOR. NOTICES OFMOTION FOR, FRIDAY. A meeting of tile Hokitika Borough Council will be held at the 'l’own Hall on Friday next. Councillor H. M., Coulson has given notice of his intention to move the following motions: (1) “That the Auditor-General be requested to immediately cause to bo refunded (in accordance with Section 120 of “The Public Revenue Act, 1910”) all moneys illegally drawn by the chhirman, members, and secretary of the Westland Hospitals and Charitably Aid Board for the two years ending March 31st, 1912.” (2) “That the Minister in charge of Hospitals and Charitable Aid bo asked to send an officer of his Department, who shall have power to examine witnesses on oath, and make a thorough investigation into the (affairs of the Westland Hospitals and Charitable Aid Board since the inception of the Board under “The Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Act, 1909,” and make recommendations to the Board with a view of showing where economy may bo effected in its administration.” The Mayor has received a petition signed by a large number of ratepayers, requesting him to call an indignation mooting at which the affairs of the Westland Hospitals and Charitable Aid Board’s affairs will be discussed. It is understood that His Worship will accede to the request and that the meeting will bo called for the beginning of next week.
