SWALLOWED A DEADLY POISON

The death cccurred suddenly in Christchurch this morning of John Mattan, a well-known wholesale jeweller and dental importer. Mr Mattan was sixty years of ago, and came to Christchurch ten years ago from Sydney, being a native of England. Ho was married and leaves a largo family. For some time Mr Manttan had been suffering from rheumatism, and to refresh himself dining frequent periods of faintness, ho kept a bottle of lime juice in his strong room. Last Tuesday at about I p.m, he felt weak, but instead of taking the limejuieo ho topic, by mistake, a dose of glacia acetic acid, which was in 'he strong room, being kept there for dental purposes. It is known ns a deadly poison, and MV Manttan suffered severely from its effects, passing away at 11.15 a.m, to-day.
