Tho match between Lancashire and Australia was continued at Manchester to-day.. weather was bright at intervals, but there was only a small attendance. With five wickets down for 130, Australia resumed batting, but the remaining five wickets only added fortyseven runs. Macartney 12, not out, and Hazlitt faced tho bowling of Heap and Dean. Seven runs were added when Hazlitt mishit a skier to midoff, and he was caught by Sharp off Dean. Macartney and Emery added 19 when Macartney, pulling a short ball, was finally taken at mid-on by Dean off Heap. He scored 80 and was batting for two hours. He gave a splendid display and hit a sixer and six fourers. The remaining three wickets only added 21 runs. Whitty scored seventeen by hard driving. The innings closed for 177.

Spooner and Mackenzie opened Lancashire’s second venture to the howling of Emery and Hazlitt. -Spooner at 12 gave a chance of being caught off Emery. He was eventually bowled by Whitty after batting forty minutes for 25. J. Tydesley was taken righthanded at wide slip very cleverly by Kellway off Whitty. Makepeace was batting soundly. Fifty appeared in as many minutes. After lunch Tydesley and Makepeace resumed to the bowling of Kelleway and Whitty. The former was soon out Sharp, the incomer, was taken at the wickets by Carkoek standing tack to MacLaren’s bowling. Makepeace had been batting three hours and had made 52 when he put his leg in front to Matthews and was out. Stumps were drawn, Lancaster being all out for 188. AUSTRALIANS BEATER.

LONDON, June 15. The weather was bright with a high wind for the conclusion of the match between Australia and Lancashire. The wicket was softish and soon became difficult and the attendance at the opening of play was small. A feature of the match was the fine bowling of Dean and Heap, the latter getting five for 26, three of which , were taken after luncheon for five * runs.

Huddleston and Dean resumed the attack. Kelleway was out without any addition to the overnight score, being dismissed with a shooter. Dean got Whitty, off thejpads. Bardsley and Macartney were associated when the former was brilliantly taken low down at midon. Macartney made 31 and was then taken by Tydesley high up, righthanded in the slips. He gave a difficult chance at 2!) to Dean, off W'hitchead. He batted an hour and a quarter. Matthews, who partnered Gregory, was splendidly caught at silly point for two. The century went up after a little over two hours’ play. At the luncheon adjournment six wickets were down for 117.

On resuming the attendance was only 300. Heap and .Dean were the bowlers to Gregory and Hazlitt. The former did not increase his score, being sent back by a brilliant catch by Huddlestone, who took the ball lefthanded at short leg. The Australian skipper batted an hour and a half and was indifferent. He gave a chance at one off Huddleston an<J A Second tfj 4JJ off Heap. Emery was caught at longoff and MacLaren returned the bowler the successive ball. The innings closed for 133, the Australians losing by three runs.
