AUSTRALIAN TEAM IN ENGLAND

MATCH AGAINST YORKSHIRE. VISITORS NARROWLY AVERT DEFEAT. GREAT BOWLING BY BOTH SIDES. ■ PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.] LONDON, June 12. The weather was dull and the wicket was soft for the conclusion of the match between Australia and Yorkshire. The bowlers had a day out, and the visitors were lucky in making a draw. With three wickets down for 28, Australia resumed, Jennings and Gregory, the not outs, facing the howling of Drake and Hirst.'

After lunch Haigh and Denton went on, Tasker keeping wickets for Dolphin who retired laine. Five were added to the overnight score when Gregory lost his middle stump in playing forward to break a break back from Denton. Mayne succumbed to a beauty from Haigh, the ball going between his legs. Fifty appeared in S5 minutes. Five for 69 whereof Jennings had made 52 in just under two hours. He saw Minnett bowled and then was beautifully bowled by Haigh. His innings - lasted two hours and was a splendid exhibition on a treacherous pitch, giving a chance to Denton at shortleg when 26. He made four fourers and was heartily cheered. The light was indifferent. Emery got his leg in front to Haigh, and Carkeek was splendidly taken at slip by Booth, the fieldsman taking the catch running. Hazlitt got his leg in front in trying to negotiate to full pitch. THE BOWLERS TRIUMPH. The weather was brighter in the af-1 ternoon and the attendance increased to 5000. Wilson and Bates opened Yorkshire's second innings, Emory and Macartney loading the attack. Those bowlers were shortly replaced by Hazlitt and Whitty, both of whom proved deadly. Hazlitt started by removing Bates’ off stump and he treated Denton similarly two runs later. At fifty Drake got log before. Four more wrickets added 19. Whitty and Hazlitt, ■ with, a fine length and clever variation of pace, divided the honours. Yorkshire declared with seven wickets down for 66.
