The Christchurch branch of the Post and Telegraph Association, has carried a, resolution, expressing its indignation at tho Postmagtor-General’s circular regarding gambling and requesting its withdrawal. The Right Hon. James Bryce, British Ambassador at Washington was the guest of tho New Zealand Club at luncheon at Wellington yesterday. Mr and Mrs Bryce left Wellington for tho south last night, and will visit tho Cold Lakes and Otira and Duller Gorges before returning to Wellington on Wednesday, the 26th inst. On the 28th they will leave for Sydney.

The Hokitika Poultry Society will hold a grand annual show of poultry, pigeons and canaries in the Drill Shed and Horticultural Hall on Wednesday, July 17th (Arbor Day). The prize schedule is now distributed and should attract a large entry, there being a liberal classification and an attractive special prize list. Schedules and entry forms may bo obtained from the members of tho Executive.

Matters are now well forward for the complimentary social to Mr. T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., to be held in tho ( Westland Opera House on Tuesday nest. The ladies who have the general arrangements in hand, are sparing no pains to make the gathering a pronounced success. There is likely to be a good attendance of country and northern visitors, and a very entertaining programme will be provided for their enjoyment. There will be a good concert programme, and first-class music will be provided for the dance to follow the speeches and presentation. His Worship the Mayor will preside. The ladies of the committee will be responsible for tho supper arrangements.
