WESTLAND TROTTING CLUB.

5 The annual meeting of the Westland Trotting Club took place yesterday in fine weather. The racing was fairly good, although tho absence of any hotting by way of the totalisator or with bookmakers detracted somewhat from the interest in the proceedings. However, the committee worked hard to ensure the success of their meeting and nothing was found wanting in regard to tho management of the Club’s affairs. Mr. Jesse Steero was present in tho capacity of Stipendiary Steward, while several other gentlemen gave their assistance to tho Club in the conduct of the meeting. Following are the results:— DISTRICT' HANDICAP TOOT (in saddle) of £ls; second horse £3 out of stake. One mile. For all horses that have not done better than 2.45. Mr. A. Grogan’s Goldseekcr, 7sees 1 Mr. V. Bonar’s Lady Ella, 4secs ... 2 Mr. D. Greancy’s Royal Princess... 7secs 3 Six others started. Ringarooma had the lend after going a furlong,, hut was closely followed by Goldseekcr and Lady Ella. At tho hack of the course, Ringarooma broke up badly. Gold seeker then assumed command and won easily by three lengths. Time, 2min. 58 3-ssecs.

INNOVATION HANDICAP (in saddle) of £2O; second horse £5 out of stake. Ono and a half miles. Mr. G. Alichcl’s Old Fred, 12sees... 1 Airs J. Harris's Dnnollie, 21sccs.... 2 Mr. T. J. Mason’s Ahueatel, 22sccs 3

Six others started. Old Fred soon took the lead, and trotting consistently throughout, won easily by about a dozen lengths, the others finishing in straggling order. Time 4min. 2 4-ssec. WESTLAND TROTTING HANDICAP (in saddle) of £3O; second liorso £5 out of stake. Two miles.

Sidus, the limit horse, kept the lead for three parts of the distance, when, on breaking Lauderhill and Chips caught up. The former camo first in the straight and won from Chips, who put in a strong claim for supremacy. Time, smin. 11 2-osoc.

Royal Princess and Riniarcoma led the field for most of the journey, and Lady Ella and Royal Princess then took command, but both broke at the top of the straight. Golclroeker then came with a good run, followed by Ringarooma, the former winning with a little to spare. Rita H., clo.e up, third. Time 2;nin. 62 l-ssoc. GOLDFIELDS TROTTING HANDICAP (in harness) of £2O; second horse £5 out of stake. Two miles For unhoppled trotters only. Mr. H. Michel’s Ruatapu, 13secs ... 1 Mr. T. Staines’s Romany Rye, 12sec 2 Mr. Richardson’s Lauderhill, 3sec .. 3 Old Ginger also started and after travelling half the distance, was caught by’ Ruatapu. The black mare trotted excellently, and was never troubled, winning easing up. Romany Rye put up a good performance, but broke at the top of the straight in the homo run. Time omin. SOsec. FAREWELL HANDICAP (in saddle) of £23; second horse £3 out of stake. One and a half miles. Mr. C. Kettle’s Maimot, 16scc I Mr. J, J. Jones’s Chips, 6scc;i 2 Mr. T. J. Mason’s Muscatel, ISsccs 3 Seven started. A good race. The placed horses trotted splendidly.
