MOTOR CAR AND GIG COLLIDE

TIMARU, April 11

In order to ovoid collision with « gig at a street crossing in 4a quiet port of the town this afternoon, the owner and driver turned a big motor car too sharply round the corner, witli the result that one of the hind wheels collapsed and the car fell on its side, throwing out the driver and four or five young women passengers. The car, nevertheless, hit the gig, hut from behind and threw it forward and capsized it. The driver of the car had his collarbone and one or more ribs broken. His sister and Miss K. Ardagh, daughter of the proprietor of the Commercial Hotel, both suffered severely from concussion and bruises. 'Hie other occupants of the car escaped with scratches and bruises.

The man in the gig, Mr. P. Butler, struck the kerb with his head when he fell and was cut about the face and later showed symptoms of skull fracture.

Ambulance men did good service before the doctor's arrived, in removing the three patients to the hospital. A tall hedge at the corner probably had something to do in bring about tho accident.
