J f SYDNEY, April 19—In the Coal Vend prosecutions, Mr Wise, before ; concluding his opening address, men- , timid specific instances showing that ; when public bodies in other States ■ I were clamouring for coal, the mines I controlled by the Vend wero not worked ito their fullest canacity. The lowest possible estimate of tho increased profits obtained by the Vend since 1905 would be six hundred thousand'- sterlinff» made tipon the Interstate trade only. The Crown’submitted that tho greater part of this increase was illegitimate, and due to combination.. Where there was no competition, buyevs were at the , mercy of the .Vend. The Vend charged extravngent prices,, and sold the same coal under the sameconditions at different- prices for different puts of Australia. i . - *
