Taranaki, played in the sheltered recreation ground. The visitors won the toss and sent Taranaki ni, the locals batting fifteen men and fielding eleven. Weston and Robertson faced Simpson and Eacey. The last ball of Simpson’s over Weston got past point to the boundary and got another four for the last ball of Eacey’s first over. The first ball of Eacey’s second over scattered Robertson’s stumps 12 1 2. Inman joined Weston and Hopkins took Simpson’s place. The partnership produced runs rapidly, and 120 .soon appeared, which followed next over by 130. Hopkins came on again, Cole sending him to the boundary. Eight byes followed.
