The body was fully clothed. Death aparently took place yesterday. THE SUICIDE EPIDEMIC. INVERCARGILL, March '22.—Sydney Harrison, aged eighteen years, employed in the Government Life Insurance Department shot himself in tho right temple with a revolver last evening and died an hour later Tin? cause is unknown. BREACH OF THE LICENSING ACT. CHRISTCHURCH, March 22.—A woman named Benson was fined £2O at the Court to-day for having sold liquor without a license. She kept a small restaurant in the city and the police said she was a common prostitute. PUBLIC WORKS AUTHORISATION. WELLINGTON, March 22.—Cabinet decided to-day to authorise the erection of quarters for the Police Matron at Christchurch, and new post offices at Waiau (Canterbury) and Patutahi. Railway construction ovtes totalling £14,000 were authorised. JUDGE OF NATIVE LAND COURT. WELLINGTON, March 22.—Albert G Holand, Registrar of the Natvie Land Court, Auckland, has been appointed Judge of the Native Land Court. SILTING OF OHINEMURI RIVER. WELLINGTON, March 22—Government intends to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the Ohinemuri River silting question, compensation claims having boon made by land owners for damages arising from tho use of the river as a sludge channel. GOVERNMENT MEDICAL APPOINTMENT. WELLINGTON, March 22.—Dr Sydney H. Hay, who took his degree at Otago University, has been appointed House Surgeon and assistant-medical officer at the Rotorua Sanatorium.

WANGANUI NEWS ITEMS. WANGANUI, March 22—Whether or not the suburb of Araraoho should be joined to the Borough of Wanganui has occupied the public attention for a. long time past. Various petitions and counter-petitions have been sent to the Minister for Internal Affairs, who has on at least two occasions, conferred with tho interested parlies. Ho has now : notified the Borough Council that he proposes to advise tho Governor to annex Aramoho to the Borough. The Union Boating Club prow, who wbn the Interstate four-oared rape at Hobart Regatta were entertained at a smoke concert this evening, It is considered probable that the Garrison Band will compete at the Ballarat contest.
