A LIFE-BOAT ASSOCIATION.
A public meeting arising out of the previous one on Tuesday was held at Orcymouth on Friday evening to take into consideration the formation of a Lifeboat Association. There were about forty present and these appeared to be very determined in their efforts to accomplish the desired end. The Hon. A. R. Guinness presided and strongly supported the movement His Worship the Mayor (Mr T. E. Coates) also attended. The proposal to form an association was unaniomusly adopted and it was decided to make application to the Harbour Board, Borough Council and County Council for assistance towards the funds of the Association.
A committee consisting of Messrs J. Johnstone, G. Stanton, Martin, E. Falkner, J. Jackson, A. Hutchings, R. Alison, T. E. Coates, J. Kerr, W. Smith, F. Granit/.a and J. J. OB’rien was appointed to canvass the town for subscripinns. The Mayor said .there was an excellent life boat connected with the Dredge Mawhera that might be obtained for use and Mr Guinness undertook to interview the Chairman of the Board in company with the Mayor to obtain the use of it. A party consisting of Messrs White, Smith, Falkner, Boswell, Hutchings and Granit/.a being appointed to test its sea-going capacity. Mr Stanton stated that the crew of the Ennerdale had promised £2O towards the funds of the Asociation. Th.e meeting then adjourned till next Thursday evening.
