THE NEW ZEALAND DREADNOUGHT.

WELLINGTON, March 19—The tender of the Fairfield Company of London and Clyde at £852,999 has been accepted for building the New Zealand Dreadnought. The auxiliary machinery will cost £22,000 more. The contract time is 24 months.

PROPOSED BUTTER FACTORY. ASHBURTON, March 20. —At a weli-attcnded meeting to-day as the outcome of the meeting held here three weeks ago, and a vigorous canvass since made of the country districts it was unanimously resolved, “That a co-operative limited liability company should be formed with the object of erecting a central butter factory at Ashburton and creameries where sufficient inducement is offered.” The capital of the company was fixed at £SOOO and Hugo Friedlander was elected chairman. The provisional directorate take between them 1300 shares and 1400 cows are being guaranteed for the first year with a substantial increase for the second and third years.

SUCCESSFUL BOATING CREW. WANGANUI, March 20.—The Union Boat Club crow, who won the Australasian Championship Fours at the Hobart Regatta, returned home to day and were accorded a hearty welcome. The New Zealand champion band played them from the railway station to the Borough Chambers.
