BANQUET TO SIR G. REID.

LONDON, March 16,

At a banquet given by the Colonial Institute in honour of Sir G. Reid 278 guests were present. It was a brilliant and representative gathering. Amongst those present were;-—Lords

Rosebery, Beauchamp, Strathcona, P.anfnrly, Sir H. Hawson, Sydney and Forrell Buxton, Talbot Moore, Bedford Herbert Samuel, Bowdcn-Smith, General Hutton, the Agents-Gcnoral of the colonies, Lucas and Pearson. Lord Crewe presided and in proposing Sir George Reid’s health said he welcomed him as a statesman of long and varied experience, a skilful and accomplished orator and a thorough man of affairs.

Sir George Reid, who met with a most enthusiastic reception, replied in a brilliant speech. He said he thought it was his duty to put aside private sorrow to obey the call of public duty He thanked laird Crewe for the honn'jiir done him by plodding.
