Iv presenting tbe annual report of the Hokitika Volunteer Bind, I have to congratulate the members ou tbo financial position, there being a substantial j credit balance brought forward for the coming year. The improvement in the phyers from a musical point of view is doubtless to be attributed to tbe invaluable services rendered by tbe conductor, Mr H. Seymour. He has instilled into the members the necessity of practising regularly, so that they may obtain :i high state of proficiency. The bat-d's playing streDgth ia 28 members (20 aenurs and 8 juniors), and although the practises have been satisfactorily attended, members mutt assist Mr Seymour as much as possible in carrying out bis arduous duties. A ep»cial feature in connection with their conductor's tuition is that he selects only the choicest music available, which fact is appreciated by not only the members, but also the general public.

I have, on behalf of members, to specially thank Miss flawkea for , the many acts of kindness in connection with tbe welfare of the band. The manner in which that lady has attended to the music atd instruments must buva involved an immense amour tof hbour on her pait, and the members, one and all, deeply appreciate hf r kind assistance. * ~
