Dr Bell, Director of the New Zealand Geological Survey Department, who wiil leave )for America and Eog'and shortly on a holiday tour, will deliver lectures at Hamrd, Yale, and Oxfoid Universities. He trill al*o lecture before the Rojal Geographical Society in Lon 'on. Since his arrival in the Colony be had tempting offers to return to Americi, and in order to retain his services the Government have agreed to give him an increased staff, aud to raiae his salary from £600 to £800 a year.
