THE FORT BALLANCE GUN EXPLOSION

The inquest was resumed on Saturday regarding the death of Gnnner J. A. Palmer, of the Permanent Artillery, who was killed oa Wednesday last through the explosion of a 12-inch quick-firing gun at Fort Ballance.
The evidence of the -injured members of the gun detachment was taken at the hospital, and was to the effect that all regulations were complied with and all proper precautions were taken in fiiiag the gun. They were quite nnable to account for the accident.
The inquest was further adjourned until Thursday next to enable the jury to inspect the model of the gun. The in« jurerl men are progressing favourably.
The body of Gunner Palmer was buried on Saturday at Karori with, full military honours.
An official inquiry is to be held this week by tne Defence Department.
