WESTLAND HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

The ordinary meeting of tbe Hospital Trustees was held at the Bord's room last evening. Present— Messrs Beare, (Chairman), 'J hompson, Baucke, Breeze, Hutchinsou, Toomey and Clifton.

The Chairman stated tbe meeting was a special oue to consider the appointment of a matron for the Hospital. Mr Clifton introduced a deputation from Woodstock consisting of Messrs P Borkin, and F D Baucke to place the views of the subscribers in those districts before the Board.

Mr Baucke moved and Mr Toomey seconded, that the deputation be heard— Carried.

Mrßorkin read a petition with 362 signatures attached,' frcm the residents of Rimu and Woodstock, atking the Board to cons'der the appointment of Nurse Shillingtcn favourably.

Mr F D Baucke said, in support of the petition, that 200 of tbe s : gnatures were those of subscribers and their relations, and their reason in supporting Nurse Shiliington's application for the appoiutraent was a somewhat selfish one, as very many of them had personal knowledge of Nurse Shiliington's kindness and skill, and they never knew when they might again need her services.

The Chairman promised the deputation that their petition would receive due consideration, on the applications beiog considered.

The deputation thanked the Trustees for their courteous hearing.

Mr Baucke proposed and Mr Breeze seconded that the petition be received — Carried.

Mr Toomey hauded in a petition from tbe residents of the Goldsborougb, Waimr.a, Callaghans aud Fox's districts with 100 signatures attached, asking for tho appointment of Nurse Shiilington as Matron.— Received.

A petition from the Stafford subscri bere was forwarded through the Stafford Hcppital Committee to the same effect with about 40 signatures attached Received on tbe motion of Messrs Toomey and Baucke.

A petition from the Kanieri contributors was also received supporting Nurse Shilliogton's appointment.—Received.. .

Mr Thompson moved and Mr Clifton seconded that applications be opened.— Carried.

Applications were then opened as follows :—: —

From Miss H Moore, aged 29 years, Amberley, 3£ years in Christchurch Hospital .

Mrs Antoinette Harris, Matron Naseby Hospital, Government Hospital certificate pf training and registered in Mew Zea* land.

Miss Amelia Bagley, Auckland Hospital, a^ed 30 years, was engaged in Dunecin and Auc'tJaud Hospitals for 10 years. Holds Dunedin Hospital t aiued nurses certificates and registered iv New Zealand.

Mips Eva Shillingtcn, Hokitika Hospital, forwarding certificate of registration and tistimouials.

All the applicants forwarded testimonials.

Tbe Trustees went into Committee to consider tbe applications.

On resuming the following resolutions were reported as being carried in committee.

That applications were dealt with and were reduced to 3, 2 and 1.

The final ballot resulted in the voting beiog between Nurses Basrley and Shiilington. resulting in Miss iShilHngton receiving the majority of votes.

Moved by Mr Clifton, seconded by Mr Toomejr, that Miss Shiilington receive the appointment of matron of the hospital. — Carried .

A hearty vote of thanks to the Rimu deputation for attending was passed on the motion of Mtser3 Toomey and -Baucke.

The Chairman and members of the Hov e Committee in expressing their pleasure at the result of the election stated that during the past three months while Nurse Shiilington bad charge, the institution was well conducted and it was a pleasure to visit it. All the members expressed pleasure at the appokttnenfc.

The Chairman reported the kind offer of Bandmaster Perry- to give an entertainment at tbe Hospital this evening.

A vote of thanks to the chair brought tbe meeting to a close.
