WESTLAND HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.

The ordinary meeting of the Hospital Trustees was held at ths Trustees Office bsb evening. Presont— Messrs Baucke, (chairman), Bivez°, Thompson, Beare, Clifton, Hutchison, Perry and Toomey. MINUTES. • The minutes of the previous meeting were rcid and confirmed. THE PRESIDENT. A. lettter was received from Mr James Cljosney, siting his intention of being absent from Hokitika for a sho-t time. The inward correspondence was read and dealt with as follows :— From the Victoria Insurance Coy, stating that the insurance on the Old Men's ilomo was now due. been removed from the bu.lding, the insurance should not be renewed.

From tb/3 Old Age Tensions Department, forwarding a small balance on account of a pcn3iouer who had died at ibe Hospital. — Received. From P. P. Geisen, Waipara, stating that he was a subscriber to th? Hospital and that his Home was at Rimu. He had a child in the Christchurch Hospital, and he asked, that the Trustees should be responsible for her maintenance there. The Trustees received the letter aad refused the request. From the Audit Department returning the balance sheet signed.~-Received. From E. Bladon, Hokitika, forwarding a cheque of £20 as a. donation. — Received with thanks. From the Stafford Ccmmictee forwarding cheque for £30, voluntary contribu tionsfiom the Hokitika Local District Committee with accompanying cheque of £12 4i, and from the Rimu Committee forwarding £24.— Received with thauks. IMPORTS. The Finance Committse in their report recommended that the members of the staff and the workers at the Hospital should be insured in the Government Insurance Offie to protect the Tru«t from the penalties of the Employers Liabilities Act. The report was adopted. The Surgeon reported for the month ending July 31st as follows :— Remaining in Hospital on Junb 30th, 26 males, 7 females ; admitted in July, 14 males, 2 females ; tptal, 40 males, 9 female. Discharged cured, 3 males, 2 females ; discharged relieved, 3 males, 1 females ; died, 3 males. Remaining in Hospital July 31st, 31 males, 6 females ; Total, 37 patients The number of patients in hospital for a period of two months and over was 12 males and 3 females, total 15 patients — Report received. The Treisuier in his report stated the receipts as £214 153 8d : expenditure £178 1 Is Cd; balance Jo credit £289 12s 4d liabilities £191 lls id.— Received. HOUSE COMMITTEE'S REPOBT. Clause 1 - Your Committee visited the institution to-day an.l found everything in good order and no complaints. ; 2— Re drainage schemes. According to instructions your Committee interviewed Mr J. C. Macfarlane, who has consented to attend this meeting and submit plans. 3 — Re matter of accommodation for patients recreation, jour Committee suggest that a room be built at- the uorthern end of No 1 ward The estimated cost of which will be £35. 4 — The matron, reports the need of sundry articles. Report mceived, the clauses to be considered seriatem. Clause 1, aJopted ; (2) Held over (considered in Committee); (3) Referred back to House Committee to report as to cost of a covered in corridor to the Old Man's Home ; (4) Adopted, the necessary articles to be obtained. The Trustees went into Committee to consider Mr Macfarlane'd plani of the drainage scheme. Mr Macfarlane was present and explained • the defails of hi« scheme. Resolved, that the Trustees adopt tha scheme for diainage and the procuriug of iron tanks for the water supply for flas-hiuj; purposes, a3 recommended by Mr Maofarlane. The Trustees resumed ana the House Committee's r-porb as a whole was adopted. KOT.CB OF MOTION. Mr Toomey moved that a rcsclntion standing in the books re the erection of a fowl house at the Hospital bo re^cinde'.J. On the motion of Mr Breeze, seconded by Mr HutchisoD, Mr Bea»-e was elected acting President in the absence cf Mr Chesoey. Mr Toomey was appoiated to sign cheques with the Acting-President on the motion of the Chairman and Mr Breeze, The Board then adjourned.
