A FIGHT WITH AN ALLIGATOR

The Royal Humane Society haß granted a medal to Subadah Sham as Khan, of the Ist Uganda Rifles, for rescuing a comrade from the jaws of an alligator in September last. This circurnst-iuce is worth a note. His Lordship Bishop Benja-nin Arnett, D.D., of Wilberforce, Ohio, U.S A., makes a note of an equally interi eßting circumstance when he writes : — 11 To whom it may concern .-" In April 1894, while on my way home from Philadelphia, I caught a very severe cold, which soon developed into rheumatism. It was impossible for me to rest by d ly or sleep by night. Ab">ut the Ist of June I was compelled to take to my bed. where I rem ined for some time. When I was able to get up, I could only get about by the use of crutches. The fall came on, and the rheumatism grew worse, lasting all through tho winter of '94 and '9s. I suffered as I never suffered Before. 1 thought that the spring would bring me relief, but it did not j consequently I was torced to cancel a number of engagements to speak.
