Justice Williams has fixed the 16th January for ithe sitting |of the Court of Arbitration re the industrial dispute between the Seamen's Union and certain steamboat owners. At the inquest on the body of Mrs F. Battley, killed by the tram at Kingsland crossing, a verdict was returned of accidental death and no blame is attached to anyone. The funeral was largely attended. Telegrams of condolence to the f imily came from all parts of the colony. Mr Battley is still in a precarious state owing to the shock to the system and his delicate health. Henry Hayson was arrested on a charge of arson of the Kingsland fire and remanded till the 3lßt. Latterly he had the reputation among his neighbours of being eccentric Dec 25. The complete returns for the year's operations by the Waihi Company to tiand from 10th to 18th December show 3.200 tons treated tor bullion valued at £4637, making a total for the five weeks oE £17,112 ; for the year, £143,292. Dec 26. Another horse was killed last night. A hack entire named Zulu, the property of W. F. M. Buckley, Dun?andel. It was in tha stable at Fendalloa and ww found at 5 a.m. tp-day stabbed in the left jugu'ar, the same as other horses killed in the last turee years. The horse was last seen at 8 p.m. on Friday. The stable is close to a house where the man in charge of the horse and two other men sleep, but none of them can give any information on tho subject. This morning at 6.30 o'clock a youth named Comerford, a clerk in Whitcombe and Tombs, son of the master of the Maungomuni native school, was drowned at Sumner while bathing. He dived from a boat and did not come up. The body has been recovered.
