There was a fair attendance for the .midweek match, New Zealand v. the next sixteen of Queensland. There was fine weather and a strong breeze. The local ma- were outmatched in every department of the game while having the reputation of being a fast team they were too light in the scrums. The most conspicuous players on the local side were Broadfoot and Gnalton, who will probably win a place in next Saturday's match. The game was notable for the improved form of a number of New Zealanders, who hitherto have not come to the front. Glennie played in better style than any previous match. The same may be said of Harris. Allan as centre three-quarter was brilliant while Humphries came near his Sydney form. In the forward division Blair and.Pauling got in great work. Smith's clever running materially helped fiisaide.

The Queenslanders won the toss and tad the advantage of the aun and wind. They kept New Zealand on the defensive ?or a little whi'o. A good rush by Hardeastie and Harris got the locals into trouble. Allen, gettingjthe ball from the Bitfttni, crossed and Humphries kicked a x gt»}. After kicking off Martin gob the bafl from the line out and invaded New Zealand ground and although Orchard firiejJ to hold Mm managed to struggle over; Gnalton failed to convert a goal. Alter sometopen play the blacks gradually ftorked the ball down the field, Smith tfcowing up brilliantly. The local rallied wfth a capital rush and beating Orchard appeared like scoring. M'Kenzie, howG?«j go* round in time and saved, the vMtors by starting a rush; which Hardfiatle headed but a free kick to Queensland re turned play to centre. A second free kick to the locals almost immediately liad New Zealand on the defensive and a third one resulted in Gnalton obtaining a penalty. With honors even the game beeam© lively. Ihe blacks made a desperate ' faah with Blair in the van got dangerously tees* scoring but a free kick against offside play relieved the reds. from the line out in the centre Pauling got away, passed his opponents and afcoffcd, but Wilson failed to add |to the advantage. The best piece of passing of thfriiay from Humphries to Allan, Baytoy to Roberts but the latter missed the ball close to the local goal line and the advantage was neutralised by half time.

On resuming Queensland were soon defending themselves the result chiefly due tb a fine run by Smith. A free kick against Wilson, however, relieved momentarily. Almost immediately after the reds were compelled to force. The blacks were not to be denied and came ' after the kick off with a great rush. A good pass Humphries to Glennie, to Allan, who scored, Humphries placing an easy goal. Queensland were again in difficulties and had to force. They then drove the ball to New Zealand twentyfive's where Orchard nulifiad a mistake by Glonnie, who should have marked. T&e locals had New Zealand in close quarters for a while but Pauling carried the leather to the centre. Harris then made the running, passed to Hard castle, tt> Glennie, to Smith, the latter got borne and Humphries converted a goal. Play was no sooner going again than Wilson got his chance and slipped across the line. He took his own kick but failed at what seemed an easy shot. Again a dodgy run, ending with a kick by f^littk W^d. to fore.?, The j

locals, continuing on the defensive, Blair, leading a rush dodged the back and scored. PauliDg failed at goal. Wheu play was resumed Wells got the ball from the line out and passed t o M'Kenzie, who got a clear run in. Humphries converted a goal as the timejpas called and New Zealand won by 29 to 5. ' *

Saturday's match will be played on tie Exhibition Ground. This is done in the interest of spectators but the ground is much harder than the Union ground.
