WRECK OF THE WAINUI

Are discharging cargo. Expect to get higher on the sandy beach next tide. The principal damage is at forefoot' and stem." Word was also sent that another pigeon would be sent in the morning. Wellington, July 14. Thu Union Company received a wire stating the Wainui had been beached at the head of Waikawa Bay and was in a secure position on a soft beach. The stem and fore foot are broken and buckled to pork At low water the vessel is dry to three feet six inches. Westport, July 14. The Corinna leaving the Wainui at 5 last evening arrived at 10 this morning. Capt. Downie reports the Wainui lies safely and snugly in Waikawa Bay, well sheltered from all weathers. Captain Lambert sent a boat ashore and got Wells, a settler, to place lights on the best part of the beach and ran the steamer full speed on the sand. Captain Downie heard nothing of the Wainui striking a second time on the Hole-in-Rock point. The steamer was making a little water forward. It is understood the Wainui grazed alongside the Beef Barrels and did not run over the rocks. As everything was safe there was no necessity for the Corinna to remain.
