SOCIAL AT HUMPHREYS
A very pleasant social was given last Friday evening by the people of Humphreys for the purpose of saying good-bye to Mr F. During . the evening valuable presents were made to Mr, Mrs and Master Robertson, Mr Robertson receiving a set of gold sleevelinks and a gold ring, Mrs Robertson, half a dozen silver tea .spoons lined with gold, a pair of sugar toDgs, and a jam spoon, whilst Master Robertson received a silver pencil .case. The presentation was made by Mr Wilson, the chairman o^ the local School (JJo'mtnittee. who in a neat little speech^eulogised Mr Robertson's work as a tpacher and Mr and Mrs Robertson's actions as neighbours, and wished the whole family future happiness and prosperity. Mr Robertson feelingly responded, thanking all for their past kindness, and saying the pleasant times he had spent at Humphreys would always keep the place fresh in his memory.
The music for the ball was provided by Messrs Harcourt, Greenlees antf others, whilst the duties of M.C. were capably carried out by Mr Heenan. During the evening the young ladies of the district, and especially Misses Geibel, Gould and Wilson, were kept engaged in providing refreshments of the best kind to all present, and were particularly attentive to bhe numerous visitors, many of w^iomhad come from .Kanieri, Hokitika, Stafford, and Blue Spur..
Some very nice songs were given with feeling, and taste. Mr Rohertson leaves, very soon, for Queenstown, Mt liyell, Tasmania, where his brother is doing well, and where we all hope he will earn the reward he so well deserves.
