THE BIBLE IN CHINA.
It is curious to find that China, which is not only heathen, but is the moat stereotyped and nonoprogressive of nations, sets us a wise example in the treatment of the Bible as an educational force. The Bible, it seems, has been included, by official direction, in the curriculum of tbe Tientsin University. This fact is significant, as showing tbe place the Bible is winning for itself even in pagan lands ; but, so the British Weekly reflects, "The question suggests itself, What are we doing tor ourselves? What British university makes study of the Bible a part of its regular course ? Our system of primary educatioo recognises the book, to be sure, in a fashion ; but is it receiving the attention which it ought to have, even as the basis of the highest human culture P " In our system of primary education, tbe only " a'ten* tion" the Bible receives takes its form of a kick 1 Even tbe despised Chinese might teach our own educational sages a wholesome lesson:
