The Supreme Court has decided that t*ie by-law under which eight officers of the Salvation Army were convicted and sentenced at Wollongong ia ultra vires and unreasonable ; the prisoners have therefore been released.

George Syne, sentenced to death for shooting Mrs Clifford, his mother-in-law, during a family quarrel, was executed yesterday „

Sir Thomas M'llwjtaith, the Premier* has informed Lord Knutsford, the Secretary for the Colonies, that the appointment of Sir A. H. Blake to tbe Governorship of New Zealand, has caused great dissatisfaction and indignation.

A boating accident occurred here this afternoon. A boat containing several people was being rowed in the neighborhood of Black Wattle Bay, when a steem launch collided with it, and two of (he occupants* Messrs Nettleton and Bardley were drowned. A young lady the jianee of Nettleton, was gallantly rescued by a man named Bourne, who jumped from tbe Glibe bridge, a distance of twenty-five feet, and swam ashore with her.
