Since Elec'ricity has been applied for ighting purposes, all efforts or' inventors have beeu to construct a lamp for general domestic use. The reason why ' this problem bas till now not been ."oived, is that none of the inventor 3 could rid themselves of the idea of gas lighting, and I that all havo adhered to tbe system of producing the Electricity in some central place, or by large machinery, insttad of • tirst laying down tbe principle that a Lamp l which should ever become generally useful r and popular, must be portable, like an oil j Lamp, and contain the generator of Elecb tnciiy in itself, i. c., m the foot of the i Lamp.

The Norman Electric Light Co. bas at last succeeded in completely realising this ideal of Electric Lighting, and there is no doubt that this most important invention will bring about a complete revolution in all branches of lighting. Our Electric Lamp needs neither Machinery, Conductors, or any oxpensife outlay, and is neither complicated nor disagreeable in manipulation ; all that ia necessary ia to refill it every four or five days with acid. The cost of lighting will be as cheap as gas (£ cents per hour J, and it has beiore the latter the immense advantage of neither producing heal, snioko, nor carbonic acid, owin? to which the air is not itnpured, and remains at the came degree of temperature. It is further, absolutely inodorou 0 , aud doea not need to be kindled by match, or otherwise, butßimpiy by turning the key, thus avoiding all danger of fire, explosion or suffocation, a? in the case of gap, if the key is left open ; and it must be conceded that this advantage alone is invaluable. It is fur her preferable to any known kind of lighting or the following reasons : (1). It* manipulation is so aimplo that auy child can keep it in order. (2). That ihe Lamp is portable, and can bo removed like any Oil Lamp, from one place to another. (3}t That ib neither requires the disagreeable fixing of the wick, or the cleaning of the cylinder, as in tbc case of Oil Lampd (4). That the light produced is a soft and most oteady one ; that it uever flickers, and the flame, though being equal in power of lighting to gou, can be regulated to any degree. (5) Toaf every danger of fire is absolutely excluded, as the light wi'l extinguish immediately, if by any accident tbe glass surroundiDg the burner should be brofctn, (6). That it will burn, even in the strongest wind, corop'etely unaffected, thus being invaluable for illuminations, lighting of gardens, coiridors, etc. This lamp is constructed for tbe present in three different s'ze* : — A, small size. Height of complete Lamp, 14 inches ; weight, about 5 pounds; for lighting rooms, cellars, storage houses, powder magazines (or similar places where explosives are kept), coaches, illuminations, gardens, mines, or any other industrial purpose. Price, £1 per Lamp, dehvered tree to any part of the world B, medium size, dtrves all domestic purposes for lighting rooms, houses, etc. f his lamp is elegantly decorated, and has a removable white ground Glass Globe. Price, per Lamp (inclusive of Bronze Foot and Globe, richly and elegantly constructed), £2., delivered free to any part of the world. C, grand size for Parlor, Hall, Saloon, Public Buildm?, &c. Tbe Lamp gives a most brilliant and steady light, has ]age removab'e wuite Gl be, decorated mo3t tastefully, and the workmanship is buth first-class and elegant.
