WELLINGTON.
August 2. A shop and dwelling house, belonging to Joseph Burnard, cabinet maker at Greytown, was destroyed by fire last night. The building was owned by the Wellington Trust and Loan Company. It was insured in the Colonial for £150; etock insured in the South British for £100.
Mr Izaid intends to petition against the return of Mr Wilson for the Foxton electorate.
Nothing definite has yet been decided by the Government as to what steps will be taken in connection with the outbreak of small pox in Australia. It is, however, unierstood that extra stringent precautions will be taken to prevent it spreading to this colony, and that the Government will enforce a general quarantine.
Four hundred natives, who attended tbe Parihaka meeting from Waimate plains, are known to have returced to their own homes.
