PROSECUTIONS UNDER MINING ACT.
Westport, September 22. Tbe Westport magistrate delivered judgment yesterday in the cases arisiog out of the explosion in the Wellington colliery Tbe first information agaiust Fergusson, manager, for neglecting to provide sufficient ventilation waa dismissed, his Worship giving defendant the beaefit of the doubt as to whether Youug was not responsible. In the second information, charging Fergusson with neglecting to see that reasonable provisions were made for the safety of persona employed ia (he mino, he was fined £5, with Co3ls £7 10. In the case agaiust Young for not examiaing the mine with safety lamp, defendant was fined £2 costs 17s.
