Cbrisichobch, March 8. Twelve cases of typhoid fever have been reported during the past fortnight. The Native Comtnissioners on South Maori claims here will hold a sitting in Akaroa this week. The Drainage Board have accepted a tender for the con3trnction of a sewage reservoir, &c. It is said to be under the engineer's estimate, which was £41,000. Montagu Mosley, the anti-Chiniquy lecturer, was acquitted to-day on a charge of obtaining money by false pretences. The total quantity of grain carried on the Canterbury section from Winchester to Amberley and branches amounts to 119,331 bags. Oa Saturday last 9500 bags were brought through to Christchurch. Timaru, March 8. Arthur Sketchley is drawing yery good houses here. At the Eesident Magistrate's Court today, W. Quinn, C. Pontiff, C. Harkins, jr. Keen, M. Lynch, and J. Sims, laborers, were committed for trial at the Supreme Court for forcible entry on the Jand of James Bowl at Makikihi. Quinn held a mortgage ever the land.
