Wellington, Sep. 7. Sir Julius Yogel has not yet resigned or accepted Agency.
Except the Post, the local papers are silent on the subject, anel it says both are immediate certainties.
A meeting of Sir Julius Vogel's political supporters is still suggested.
A sort of Opposition caucus was held to-day at which it is said it has been agreed to support Mr Macandrew's resolutions regarding continuance of Provincialism in Otago ; also said that Sir George Grey proposes introducing a Bill giving Provinces the option of continuing Provincialism, but any such project seems now too late.
The second reading of the Gold Duties Bill passed, but on the understanding that it shall be fully discussed in committee.
Numerous Bills haye advanced stages last night, but none of special interest.
Business generally has been uninteresting.
The question of legality of two extra Ministers is raised in both Houses. Meantime the Hon. John Hall does not act or sit in the Council, but Mr Whitaker contends the Ministry is perfectly legally constituted.
A Dunedin telegram states that Haughton's counsel is taking steps to set aside the information, on the grounds ot informality. Detective Farrell has proceeded from here to bring him up.
[PEB PRESS TELEGRAPH AGENCY.] In the Legislative Council to-day, Dv Pollen made a personal statement referring to a statement in the Auckland Herald, and quoting from Hansard the the speech of Sir George Grey, on which that statemeut was founded. He said "No such interview took place, no such compact as is stated by Sir George Grey to have been made, was made or erer imagined by me then or at any other time."
The Public Works Bill was read a second time.
The Public Trust Office and Marriage Act Amendment Bills were read a third time.
Other measures were postponed, and the Council adjourned.
