Five hundred unemployed met last night under th.c auspices of the Working Men's Protection League, and adopted a petition to the Superintendent stating that they were in a condition of destitution approaching starvation, and requesting' employment. They adopted also a petition to the Legislature of Victoria, requesting them to send steamers to convey away tho unemployed and their families, stilting their willingness to repay half of their passage money within a certain period aft r landing.

To-day two hundred unemployed assembled outside the Superintendent's office, and sent in a deputation, who returned after some time, reporting that the Superintendent's statement was that no employment could be given at present, but that the Railway Appropriations would be passed in a few days, and that the worfc would be proceeded with as soon as possible. There were expressions of dissatisfaction, and the meeting demanded to see the Superintendent outside. He refused, stating that it was not dignified to address a disorderly mob. The crowd stormed the hall, and threatened to break into tbe Superintendent's room. A posse of police cleared the building of the crowd, who proceeded to meet in the Volunteer Drill Shed, to consider what further action should be taken. A proposal was made to pull down the Provincial Council chamber.
