THE CRICKET GROUND ON SATURDAY.

The Cricket Ground was, as usrial, visited by a goodly number of the advo^ cates of a Saturday half-holiday oh the' above day: Some df them, however, were" disappointed at the amusement afforded^ because the sport promised did not come? off. A cricket match, First Eleven v. Twenty-two All-comers, was to have been played, but owing to the fdet that neither the Eleven nor the Twenty-two appeared ori the ground, the game fell through. This' was the principal cause of discontent* However, Messrs Barbor and Daley chose sides for a scratch match, and a close contest resulted. We were glad to notice Tennant handling the bat on Barbor's side. He seemed rather nervous, however, and although he made the top score of the day (twenty-three) he did not seem to play with confidence. Practice will, no doubt, cause all defects to disappear. The next highest score on this side Avas Mr M'Kinuon, who made eight. On Daley's side the top score was made by the captain, seventeen; Croft following with fourteen* The bowling all round wan fair, but nothing ta boast of. The batting, with the one or two exceptions mentioned, was very poor, while the fielding was below par. As will be seen by the appended score, Barbor's score was victorious, win* ning by twelve runs. Daley's side.
