The smart ketch Jane Ann is fast loading up, having now only room for a few more tons. She sails for Dunedin at an early date. The favorite paddle steamer Charles Edward crossed the bar at nine yesterday. Of her passage from Nelson, Captain Holmes reports that she sailed from Nelson on the 2nd at 1 p.m., and arrived at Westport at 9 a.m. on the 3rd. Experienced fine weather throughout, and made the trip in twenty hours. Left Westport at 10 p.m. the same day, and crossed this bar as above, having come down the coast under easy steam. She had a fair passenger list, and a considerable amount of cargo for this port. The Charles Edward sailed again last night for Manukau, via coast ports and Nelson. We notice by the Bhipping. telegrams received yesterday that the steamer Beautiful Star, which, it will be remembered, broke her shaft off Cape Farewell, and had to be towed into the Buller River, has arrived at Nelson. She run the distance between Westport and Nelson under canvas. It is understood she will goon the "cradle" at Nelson, and have a new shaft fitted, which is now being made at Wellington. The s.s. John Perm, we learn, will not call at Nelson on her way to the Coast.. She has entered into an engagement to bring cattle from Wanganui to Westport, and other ports on the West Coast, and was expected to arrive at Westport yesterday, in which case her appearance at this port may be looked tor this evening. The Perm will sail north the tide after her arrival here. She calls in at the various coast ports, making Manukau her final port of destination. The s.s. Rangitoto, contrary to her usual routine of the ports, has made a. call at Nelson this trip, prior to calling at Wellington. This change of route was occasioned by the circumstance of her having 100 tons of cargo for Nelson on board. She sailed for Wellington yesterday, and thence proceeds to Lyttelton.,, Dunedin, and Bluff, taking her departure for Melbourne from tbe latter port. Tbe paddle Bteamer Persevere came down from Greymouth yesterday, with fifteen tons of coal for the Hospital. We understand sho will go over to Lagoon Town to discbarge her cargo. Tbe iron clipper barque Helen arrived at Nelson on Monday las? xrpm the Mauritius, after a fine passage of forty days. She Inrings a full cargo of sugar, consigned to Messrs Nathaniel Edwards and Co. The paddle steamer Charles Edward took her departure last night for Manukau, via He coast ports. She took away some half dozen passengers, and a little cargo.
