The ship Furness Abbey has been detained in quarantine, having had three cases of small-pox on board during the voyage. The last case was convalescent fifty-three days ago, and as all the passengers are now well, and no deaths occurred, the ship's detention will be of short duration.
Hamilton, July 1.
A public meeting, numerousty attended by sheepholders, was held to-day at Hamilton, at which it was unanimously resolved that Mr John B. Hughes should, on behalf of the meeting, prepare and sign petitions to each House of Parliament praying its favorable consideration of resolutions adopted by the meeting, that the sheepholders of the whole colony, aided by all fines and penalties levied under the act, should bear the whole of the expense in eradicating scab in sheep ; and that in consideration thereof, the sheepholdcrs should have same control over the working of the act that the sheepholders of New South Wales now have. The aforesaid petitions go to Melbourne by this night's mail.
St. Arnaud, July 1.
The St. Arnaud Inspector, Mr Allan, having discovered scab on 8000 travelling
sheep, they have been burned at the Richardson Bridge.
