CORRECTION OF A MISREPRESENTATION.
To the Editor of the West Coast Tintes
and Observer.
Sir— tn a letter this morning published in your columns, Mr Rees states that the ehajrnian, .at jthe ; meeting held by Mr Bals at the Globe Hot?l, did not call for hands against the candidate. I tieg to state that such assertion is direct untruth, which I can prove by many who were present. Being chairman of the meeting referred to, I had good opportunity of witnessing the proceedings pretty closely, and I am certain that Mr Rees had recourse to the use of low slang and rowdyisnij which would have disgusted any man of intelligence and education (as he is supposed to be). ; Mi: Rees had a considerable number round him who have nb vote, and who, to v c his own expression, did most of the " boo-hooing and hissing," ai;d in which his own clerks look a most prominent part. With regard to Mr Pvees putting anything to the meeting, as he states he did at the conclusion, the fact is this: After the meeting was over, the number about him already referred to lifted him oh to "the Hble, and, as I was told, asked him to preach them a serinori: . ; In conclusion, I may state that Mr Rees held in his hand several sheets of paper, am? on being asked -by a voter if it was a brief, and if he was come with his crowd for the purpose of annoying the meeting, he said he was.
GEORGE FINDLAY, Chairman of the meeting above , . . referred to..
