Bbeach of Westland Police Obdinanoe. — Miss Petrie, Thomas Collins, and Thomas North, were, for neglecting to keep the chimneys of their respective houses clean, each fined J6l, and 6s 6d costs.— John Cosgrave, Patrick Joj e P h Halligan, and John Manson were fined £*■ and 6s 6d costs for obstructing a -* public thoroughfare.— James Blake was fined £1, for removing soil from a public thoroughfare— to wit, Eitzherbert-street. Beeach of Wes?lam> Public House OBDiNANCB»-James Evans was charged with neglecting to keep a light burning ever the door of his licensed house, the Bed Lion Hotel, Gibson's Quay, and was fined £i, and 6s 6d costs. AssauiS 1 . — Mark Glees was charged that he did, on the 18th August, assault T. E. Christian, whilst in the execution of his duty. Mr South for plaintiff, and Mr Harvey, for defendant. In bhis case it appeared that Thomas Knowles Christian came to defendant's house, the Scandinavian Hotel, on the 18th August last, to take proceedings under a distress warrant, issued at the suit of Mr South. After advising defendant to pay the money, - he (Christian) went behind the bar to take an inventory, when defendant seized plaintiff, and struck him with his clenched fist, and endeavoured to eject him. — Thomas Robertshaw, assistant bailiff, gave corroborative evidence. — 3?. r the defence, Mrs Glees stated that Mr Christian refused to show his authority, and endeavored to burst in the bedroom door, and tore her hnsband's coat. — His Worship fined defendant £5, and costs. Bbeach of Destitute Persons Obdinakce — Henry Andrew Gordon was charged with neglecting to fulfil an order of the Court, that he should pay £1 per week for the support of his wife. Defendant called a witness, who said that he had paid money to W r Eees within this month. His Worship said that he would remand the case until the 26th, as Mr Sees and his clerk had gone to Charleston. Assault. — James Bees was charged with assaulting one John Dulton on the 14th, by striking him. Mr Harvey for defendant — Plaintiff deposed that that they both lived together on the Kanieri. On the morning of the 14th he had put the billy on the fire, when defendant without any provocation took the billy off and struck plaintiff with it. His * Worship dismissed the case, saying that he should advise plaintiff to leave defendant if they could not agree. The Court then adjourned till next day at eleven o'clock.
