COMMER CIAL INTELLIGENCE.
West Coast Times Office, Saturday Evening. The amount of import duty collected at the Custom Houso to-day was L 69 18s Sd. The following list of merchandise cleared shows its distribution : — " Brandy £8 2 0 Geneva 16 10 0 Wine 13 4 0 Tobacco 28 10 0 Provisions " 2 0 6 Drapery 0 6 8 Timber , 15 0 £69 18 2
There ha 3 been no activity whatever in the import market during the past week, from causes wo have had so frequently to note of la'.e, heavy weather and bad bar. With the exception of cargoes of tho Dancing Wave and Huon Bello, from Hobart Town, consisting of produce, thero has been no additions made to stocks ; transactions have been on a most limited scale for immediate trade wants, not at all affecting market values. Bread stuffs and some other staples have an improving tendency. Tho coasting trade has received a considerable check from tho inclement weather, and country buyers have shown but little disposition to increase stock, waiting the effect on markets of the many heavy cargoes in the roadstead, which, when available, will doubtless give a considerable impetus to business.
