MINING REPORT,

When things come to their worst they must mend, saith the proverb. We believe that here mining matters have come to their worst and will soon mend. Just now Jones' Flat appears to be deserted, scarcely a whim, and not a steam engine is at work. During this week two more parties have been stopped by water, M'Kenzie's and Hill's; we believe the Bee Hive have also stopped. The Scandinavian it is known to have stopped for alterations, and the Morning Star Company have taken the opportunity of making some slight imprdvements ; but before this sheet appears we expect both Companies will be again pumping, and two other engines in a few weeks. We also hope from the vigorous action taken by the Tail Race Committee, and the support already promised by the townfolk, that that necessary drainage work will soon be put in hand, and the Flat resume its former busy appearance.

The Robs Extended Company held a extraordinary meeting at their office on the 4th instant, when it was decided to raise the capital to the amount named in the prospectus L6OOO in L 5 shares instead of L3OOO as registered. We see by prospectus that the Company have bought an engine and pumps, and also the shaft and preliminary works. Payment to be made in scrip, these facts speak well for the confidence entertained in the richness of the ground which would have been worked long since if the water could have been mastered with hand labor.
